The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. The AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

The Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Adventure Outings Student Trip Leader. This is a part-time, non-benefitted student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $16.50 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico with at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student).

ADVENTURE OUTINGS

STUDENT TRIP LEADER

SUMMARY

Adventure Outings (AO) is hiring for the position of Trip Leader. Adventure Outings Trip Leaders will work under the direct supervision of the Adventure Outings Program Director to develop, plan, and implement adventure-based outdoor trips.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work closely with the AO office, Student Managers, and AO Equipment Room in planning the logistical operations and programming for each trip and follow the procedures specified by each area
  • Plan and organize all details of a trip and facilitate the pre-trip meetings
  • Present and implement pertinent AO policies, practices, and procedures to participants through a safety or orientation talk
  • Be responsible for all driving and follow all AO, AS, State, and Federal driving regulations
  • Follow all Associated Students and AO safety policies
  • Provide active field leadership and supervision of other staff throughout the trip process
  • Assume command of any emergency situation or other trip problem
  • Conduct evaluations for all leaders participating on a trip and identify training and development needs
  • Maintain good relationships with local community and government agencies, the Associated Students, and the university
  • Market AO trips to the campus and greater Chico community
  • Attend AO's weekly staff meetings
  • Other duties may be assigned.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in an outdoor environment with prolonged periods of work in moderate to strenuous physical environments and involving regular contact with others. Participation in various activities, events, meetings and/or retreats on or off campus which may include evenings and/or weekends is be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must interact well with people
  • Must be organized and proactive
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • AO (or similar program) trip experience
  • Completion of Adventure Outings' Foundations of Outdoor Leadership
  • Completion of at least 1 semester of the Adventure Outings Internship
  • Completion of Adventure Outings' driver & trailer training
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Have completed at least one semester of the Outdoor Leadership Internship (UNIV 389)

Special Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units (undergraduate) or 4 units (graduate student) at California State University, Chico.
  • Possession of current CPR and First Aid (or higher) certifications.
  • Completion of AO driving and trailer training and possession of an acceptable driving record
